4 Favorite Dry Shampoos

4 Favorite Dry Shampoos

If you’re anything like me, you like to stretch as MANY days as possible in between washing your hair. Yes? ? (Also Neal somehow equates me not washing my hair with me not showering? Which is NOT true–why do men not understand the concept of the body shower? Anyone else’s significant other tells them this all the time? ?)

Extending between washes does wonders for your hair health. It actually can help reduce oiliness over time and help control frizz. Not to mention–cutting down on washing, drying, and styling times is just WAY faster and easier, right?

Well–I have tried out a LOT of dry shampoos in my day, and four, in particular have been standing out lately in my rotation, so I thought I’d do a big ole round up post in case you’ve been in the market for a great dry shampoo as well!

My current four favorite dry shampoos:

R & Co Spiritualized Dry Shampoo Mist:

Favorite Dry Shampoos - R & Co

This dry shampoo mist is hands down the most effective for CLEANING your hair. It’s a mist, so it makes your hair wet at the roots, but when it dries it’s basically like you’ve just washed it. It’s MAGICAL. In addition, it’s essentially like a micellar water for hair–so it really does “clean” it–if that makes sense. For an extra strength effect, mist in your roots and then shoot your roots with a blow dryer and round brush.

One drawback to this product is that it does not volumize or texturize your hair at all, which, as we know, are major added benefits to dry shampoo. However, when it comes to stretching as long as possible in between washes, this truly cannot be beat.

With this mist (for cleaning) in combination with the R + Co dry shampoo paste (for volume) below, I’ve been able to stretch my hair 4 days in between washing!

As you’ll note, this is one of two R + Co products in this roundup and they make some of my favorite haircare products. They’re also a cleaner brand, which obviously is a huge win in my book–because they are also really high performance! Their products are Sulfate-Free, Gluten-Free, Certified Cruelty-Free, Paraben-Free, and Vegan.

Note on where you buy this: Weirdly, the Amazon reviews are mixed on this, so I might avoid buying it from Amazon. (I always check the reviews for beauty products on Amazon to make sure they match reviews elsewhere–if they don’t, there could be something sketchy happening! 99% of the time its fine, but maybe be careful in this case? Sometimes they could be tampered with/fake!) Some of the Amazon reviews say the product doesn’t work at all, which I know it does, and it has 5 star reviews everywhere else–so just a watch out! I’d buy it at Dermstore.com and a lot of local salons carry the brand too! (I usually get mine at my salon, Sine Qua Non!)

R & Co Badlands Dry Shampoo Paste:

dry shampoo paste

Okay I will admit, this is a product I purchased mostly because curiosity got the best of me, not because I actually expected to like it. What would a dry shampoo PASTE be like!?!

The answer: AMAZING.

It’s one part dry shampoo, one part styling paste. So, it’s fantastic for both soaking up excess oil and adding amazing volume and texture. This works better in my opinion than any other volumizer I’ve tried. I even add this to clean hair for both the volume + texture but also because I think it works well as a preventative dry shampoo too. (My hair still looks freshly washed the next day!)

To use: Rub a bit on your fingertips and massage into roots like you would a wet shampoo in the shower. For texture on mid-sections, rub into palms and scrunch into hair, twisting pieces to emphasize piecey, beachy waves. (Doing this is also great for refreshing hair that you curled the night before and giving you great bedhead waves!)

Note: You can buy it on Amazon (the reviews look fine there so I’m sure it’s fine ?) or Dermstore.com!

Missio Coconut Dry Shampoo Powder:

Missio Dry Shampoo

I was introduced to this product by my friend Morgan, who runs Missio’s PR!

I love this company because they don’t just have great products, they also work to help those directly affected by human trafficking through their initiatives to educate salons in victim identification, mobilize stylists in beauty initiatives, and by donating a portion of their proceeds to nonprofit partners. If giving back is important to you, you will LOVE this brand.

I have tried quite a few powdered dry shampoos and definitely thought nothing rivaled Bumble + Bumble’s Pret a Powder (which is great performance-wise, not the CLEANEST product out there–not horrible, but not super clean either) but I decided to give this a try, and I’m so glad I did!

It uses a combination of natural powders to soak up oil and add light volume. It also has Vitamin B3, Bamboo, and green tea powders to help sooth, clarify and promote healthy hair growth. This is also the CLEANEST product of this bunch (even the fragrance is natural). So if you’re looking for something with all-natural ingredients, this will be the product for you!

Living Proof Dry Shampoo Spray:

Favorite Dry Shampoos spray

I would say this is the best all-purpose product that covers ALL the bases–cleaning, volumizing, texturizing. If you want as FEW products as possible, this is a great one. It’s high performance and I love the way it smells.

I would label this a “cleaner” product–while it’s better than many hair products out there in terms of being clean (it’s Paraben-free; phthalate-free; silicone-free and cruelty-free, but it’s still not quite “clean.”)

The downside is that it definitely depletes the fastest out of any of these products. It’s probably due to the fact that it’s an aerosol AND because it has so many different functions, that you reach for it more often than the other products. Just something to be aware of if you’re looking for a product that stretches a long time!

You can snag this at Nordstrom or Sephora!
